"We are all scientists"
1. The first films claims us all to be scientist through trial and error. Indeed, after reflecting my own experiences, I can recall one specific trial where still to this day my family thinks I'm insane for even trying. In high school, I remember I came home one day after school and found myself extremely hungry. My mother suggested to have a snack until dinner was ready. Ever since I can remember I've had a ridiculous obsession with peanut butter on a spoon (Skippy Smooth). However, on that particular day I scooped my spoon into the peanut butter jar and as I walked away I noticed thin slices of turkey ham laying on the counter top as my mom prepared dinner. It had occurred to me to right then and there, "What if I combine my turkey ham with my delicious peanut butter?" At that moment, I believed I had created something spectacular! A few days later I attempted to try the same snack again but felt the bitter difference. My hypothesis would conclude this snack was only tempting to me that day because I was starving.
"Voodoo Voodoo"
2. Growing up with my family and being the youngest of the two, I found myself being the bravest. Every Friday night was movie night and we would all take turns picking a choice of movie. My favorite genre and still is Horror Films. In my old childhood house we had this long hallway that would lead to the restroom. One Friday night while watching the movie Halloween, me and my sisters heard mysterious noises coming from the hallway. Of course at that moment I had to use the restroom and asked my sisters to come with me. In order to get from one end of the hallway to the restroom we came up with a method of getting through the hallway alive! (we thought Micheal Myers was at the end of hallway) So what we would do is hold each others hands, before we ran across the hallway we would say, "The Power of three will set you free!" (from a t.v show Charmed). Once we did we would hold our breath and run across to reach the restroom. We did this for years until we eventually we moved houses and no longer heard mysterious noises.
"Calvino's Shuffle"
3. Calvino's Shuffle is the belief that a person is correct but then realizes that in fact the person him/herself is wrong. This metaphor is important when using it to guide a certain principle. This factor may be difficult for people to accept but once it is accepted then the person can move on and begin to analyze another principle in his/her life. Hard strong evidence and resources must be provided in order to proceed this metaphor. For example, at the age of six I stopped believing in "Santa Clause". My older sister, who is five years older than me, came to me one day during the holidays and said, "Do you still believe in Santa?" Confused by such question, I said, "Yes?". My sister than explained to me the that it is impossible for one person to travel the entire world and deliver presents to hundreds of thousands of children. I had then realize that it is impossible and I never once thought of it in that perspective.
