1.Drawing from the movie "we are all scientists" describe several incidents in your own life where you thought and acted scientifically. Be sure to detail how your thoughts or actions were scientific.
I acted as a scientist when my car wouldn't start. I went down a list in my head of possible things that might be the problem. First I made sure it had gas, that wasn't the problem. Then I checked the fuses, all of them were good. Next I checked the battery charge level. When I checked the battery and was about to hook it back up I noticed that the contact sleeves for the battery were all corroded and had a white gunk on it so I cleaned that off and tried to turn on my car and it worked.
2.Using the movie "voodoo voodoo" as your prompt, have you in your life used a "magical formula" (from prayers to mantras to chants to childhood rhymes, etc.) to secure what you wanted or to protect yourself, etc? Feel free to tell your recollections in story form. How would you today rationally explain how and why it worked.
Some "magical rituals" that I do are that I like throwing my dice with a spin to them, I feel like it gives me more favorable numbers. Also when playing Pokemon on my GameBoy and trying to catch a Pokemon I repeatedly push the A and B buttons after throwing the Pokeball, I feel like it increases my chances of successfully catching it. Another ritual I do is while playing basketball, when I have to take free throws I like to bounce the ball 3 times and then spin it between my hands and then spin it one more time, then I shoot.
3.Calvino's shuffle is an important metaphor. Why should it be a guiding principle when claiming something for certain? Give examples.
Often times one must look at the surroundings of the matter at hand to understand the real picture. Like when building a puzzle, you might start off with a section that looks like its going to be something but while you continue building on that image you realize its actually something else ( this is all assuming that you didnt know what the puzzle was of beforehand by looking at the box). Another example of using contexuality can be a trial where the jury cannot just look at individual pieces of evidence to decide their judgement, they must look at all the evidence together along with the individual in question.
