1. Your name
Asia Wade
2. Your attendance. How many classes missed? How many late? Be honest.
I missed two days and I’ve never been absent
3. How much of the reading did you do? Explain
I’ve haven’t read too much, but I have scanned through a little of the reading
4. PLEASE PROVIDE A COMPLETE LIST OF ALL YOUR FILM TESTS.
5. Why does Littlewoods’s Law of Miracles and Desultory Decussation best explain why certain magical chants (such as Voodoo Voodoo) work versus a purely supernatural one? Be sure to back up your argument and you may wish to do original research from the Internet as well.
Based on the book, “Littlewoods’s Law of Miracles", in a normal person's life, miracles can happen every once in a month. In my opinion, seeing a miracle once in a months can become a common thing because if we think it in another way, the probability for a miracle to happen is better than for a winning lottery we can get. If we look it in a year, we will encounter 12 miracles per year which is a good thing
6. What is apophenia/patternicity? Why is this a viable explanation behind license plate synchronicities? Be sure to back up your argument from the required readings, etc. Provide two examples of apophenia/pattenicity that you have witnessed or read about (be sure they are different from the readings/films).
Apophenia is a condition when someone is trying to connect something that is totally random and thinks that there is a connection or meaning to why it happens. This is a viable explanation behind license plate synchronicities because as we all know, license plates are made up from random numbers and letters and put up together to form 7 elements. Even though it is made randomly, there is a possibility that someone’s plate numbers could be the a little bit different than ours and almost looks the same.
7. Why was Wolfgang Pauli mesmerized by the number 137? How would Jung explain it? Do you agree with his explanations? Why or why not?
The Hidden Side of Wolkang Pauli: An Eminent Physicist's Extraordinary Encounter with Depth Psychology, Pauli was haunted by the fine structure constant which Sommerfeld had introduced and which has the approximate value 1/137.
Jung explain it to him that he is experiencing Synchronicity which is two events that happens simultaneously. In my opinion, I agree with his explanation because it is somewhat like apophenia in which is a condition of when someone is trying to connect something that is strange at any given moment and believes that there is a connection.
8. What does the author mean by “you are probability”? Be sure to back up your answer from pertinent details from the book of the same title.
What the author meant by “you are probability” is means given the odds against a person breathing and existing, and surviving beyond being a tiny sperm is in itself incredible. Like for example your fathers sperm, your dad can produce over millions of sperms and only one can make it too the eggs and begin its fertilization and produce you, meaning you are 1 in a million to be born kind of like the game of lottery.
9. What does surfing the matrix mean? Be sure to use pertinent quotes from the readings.
Surfing the matrix means an good unexpected plan and comes whether you’re expecting it or not, kind of like when Fanning competed in a surfing tournament in which he won by catching a great wave. He did not know who sent the waves, but he is thankful for it to happen to him. Showing that you never know what an outcome came be, and how ironic it is for something to happen at the right moment.
10. Why is intelligent design not generally regarded as genuine science? Back up your answer. Do you agree or disagree? Be sure to support your response. Feel free to use original research from the Int
Intelligent design is not generally regarded a genuine science because it says that behind the design of living things/nature there is often an intelligent cause or a combination of natural hereditary traits and an intelligent cause. Although there are scientists compare this theory to creationism, which is seen as the anti-science view. Because of this comparison, it is easy to understand why people discount intelligent design as a science. I disagree with this information as I did review and look over this theory I found it to be quite nonfactual.
11. What is Feynman’s Flower? Why does Feynman believe that science helps us appreciate beauty versus detracting from it?
In 1981, physicist Richard Feynman was interviewed by the BBC. He told the story of his disagreement with an artist about who can better appreciate the beauty of a flower: artists or scientists. Feynman’s friend made the presumption that, as an artist, he can appreciate the beauty of a flower much more than Richard could, from a science perspective because science takes a flower apart and analyzes each individual part. Feynman, disagreed and argued that he can see the flower, as any other person would visually. The fact that science can break down the flower and analyze each part, down to the molecular structure, and observe how the aesthetic beauty of a flower is key to its function in nature.
12. What is the Shiva Nature of science? Give key examples of it.
Shiva is the Hindu deity often depicted with multiple arms, Shiva nature of science means that there are multiple ways to solve one problem in science.
13. Why is your professor as critical of Ken Wilber’s theory of evolution as outlined in Cosmic Creationism? Do you agree or disagree? Back up your argument.
Professor Lane is so critical about Ken Wilber’s theory of evolution because Wilbert stated that no one believes in evolution, although this theory is false, stated in the book Cosmic Creationism; Ken Wilber's Evolutionary Theory he explained the theory of natural selection incorrectly, I do agree with my professor, because I am a person who believes in god.
14. Why does Huxley argue that we are “all scientists”?
The idea of scientific thinking is the similar for all human brains. Science is in everything, so people don’t have to be talking about something ‘scientific’, because the process in which people think through problems, question things, test out different ideas, and figure out what works, is generally the same for any person.
15. How does the Star Trek Metaphor help us understand why we may be confused at times?
The concept is that all communication is done using folk stories. Captain Picard eventually realized this and was able to communicate with the Tamarian captain, Scotty is the brute, physical part of our brain, the reptilian brain stem. Captain Kirk drives the ship, and is much like the emotional part of our brain, the midbrain
16. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE READING SO FAR?
I have very little favorites as because I didn’t really read through the material
17. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE FILMS SO FAR?
All films that have been shown by professor lane have been great

19. Reading Extra credit
If you have done any extra credit readings, please provide a 200-word (critical) analysis.
I have done extra reading and found interest in the theory “surfing the matrix” and wanted to go more depth into it. The examples that have been read were about Fanning and Slater and how they won their surfing competitions just off “luck” I believe that sometimes you can be blessed with luck, but other times things are done to be taught a lesson. An example of luck for myself would be when I was a sophomore, my friends and I would literally go out everywhere and this particular weekend I was in trouble and wasn’t allowed to go out, that Friday evening one of my friends decided to take her father’s car and joy ride in it with my other friends, unfortunately they were pulled over and the car was impounded, they were stranded in an unsafe neighborhood as her father was mad and decided that he wanted to report the car stolen and have them arrested including his daughter, thankfully I wasn’t with them, I felt that me getting in trouble was bad but it was good at the same time cause it helped me out of a situation that wouldn’t have been too good.
