Film Exam Question Week 2
Part 1:
My daughter is now 4 and I find myself watching her test out different methods of doing things to find out which one works best. As you can imagine it’s a trial and error sort of life in my house. The other day she was attempting to make herself chocolate milk for the first time and not being able to read yet was estimating the amount of both the amount of chocolate and milk needed. I wanted her to do it by herself so she could see the difference in guessing how much chocolate she needed. Naturally she put a lot more chocolate in first, and a small amount of milk. Tasted it, gave me a face and asked for a new glass. It took 8 cups and several spills but after she understood that trying anything takes practice, and understanding of what you need and how much. Needless to say she felt very accomplished, and completely over chocolate milk.. I drank the last glass.
Part 2:
My childhood growing up wasn’t the best environment, I often felt sad, lonely, and scared. In between wishing I was a bird and could “fly far far away from here”, I would recite a lot of scriptures. Psalm 23 was the one I repeated the most, “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil:..” After repeating this several times I always felt calmer and at ease as if a wave of peace had come over me, and I could breathe again. Now as I’m older I wonder did I even understood what the scripture meant? Or why it made me feel better? I think the reason it made me feel safe was because I was entrusting that it would. I had faith in the words I was saying that they would not fail me, if I didn’t trust what I was saying I would have had nothing to help me. I needed this to work, there was no other choice. It was a self fulfilling prophecy.
Part 3:
Calvino’s shuffle should be a guiding principle when claiming something for certain because it opens your eyes to see that nothing is for certain. You may be think you know and understand the life you live but you can not fully understand it till the next “card” or event takes place in your life. In most cases your not alone in your life so what ever event happens in yours will also make an impact on the other people around you also changing their lives and experiences. For example if you have two kids and have a great job your life may change if you lost that job and had to move. Not only would it be affecting you but also your children and the school they go to or the friends they meet. “A person can not be sure of their lives until the last card is played.”
