Quiz #4
1. My father is a big believer in extraterrestrials. Ever since I can remember I would see him watch videos and documentaries about UFOs and extraterrestrial life on other planets. One evening my dad went out for a run, which was a rarity because he’s lazy and overweight, and he came back home and showered. He told me how tired he was from running and that he wanted to relax, so I hand him the remote for the television and of course he found a documentary about UFOs and alien abductions. I then leave to go to bed. The next morning I woke up to my father rushing up the stairs to wake my mother, my sister, and I to tell us that he was abducted last night. My mother and I got angry because we thought it was foolish and he woke us up in such a state of worry. As we brushed him off to go back to bed he stops us to tell us what happened. He says, “I went to bed last night and I was awaken by a light near my window! I looked outside and a large shadow that had a human silhouette came towards me. Before I know it I’m on this space ship that has all these gadgets and gizmos all around me. I was just sitting on a chair.” I had asked him if he was tied down or if they meant him any harm. Of course I still did not believe him, but many parts of his story did not flow so I had to ask questions for clarification. He then tells me, “No, I was just on the chair and no one was around. No one talked me I was just in the chair, but I can feel I was on an air craft because I can hear the engines on and feel the rattling of the floor. Before I knew it I was back home and in my bed.” My rational explanation for that “experience” he had would be that he dreamt all of it. He was watching a documentary that was about UFOs and alien abductions already, so I believe that the documentary itself was enough of an influence to alter and manipulate his mind to think that he got abducted. Of course when I told him that he completely denied it and he felt this self-worth because he felt like he was chosen for some reason by this “exceptional beings.” I do believe that the Chandian Effect applies to this situation because my father to this day sincerely believes that he was “chosen” and was abducted. Even though rationality wise he was simply watching the documentary and his mind played a trick on him and altered his mind while he was sleeping.
2. According to astronomy, my sign is a Libra. I’m on the very cusp between Libra and Scorpio, so I’ve always had people tell me that I have both personalities of a Libra and a Scorpio. I’ve never given astrological signs much thought, because I like to consider myself a skeptic and I find it hard to believe that the stars tell peoples fate. Now, as a part of this question assignment I’m told to find a horoscope that pertains to me and this is what I found, “Libras love excitement, new situations, adventure and the unusual. They are all about partnerships and groups, they are the glue that hold a group together because they are the ones responsible for keeping harmony and peace. Libras have mastered the art of relationships, not just romantic but business, personal, and family relationships just to name a few.” When reading my horoscope I found many things not true and described the complete opposite of myself; although, when I read this I thought it pertained to me the most. The way I would explain this is by simply stating how broad it is. I believe it’s a very broad statement and that chances it pertaining to me, a Libra, are moderate. I can easily tell myself that because this horoscope it true then all the other things that it says are true too. On the other hand, I’m not that ignorant to see that just because one thing or several other things relate to me doesn’t mean it’s true. In fact, there were many other statements it said that were completely wrong about me.
3. If an alien life form came to my house the one thing I believe he/ she would find most odd about human behavior would be our impulsive tendencies. We as humans tend to react and follow our emotions. We allow it to drive our actions and control our way of thinking. For example, the feeling of love has a strong effect on most human beings. Love can lead to happiness or tragedy and we allow this emotion to control us and make impulsive decisions. In my mind, I believe if an intelligent alien were to pay me a visit I would think the one thing that he/ she would deem odd by observance would be our impulsive tendencies that steam from our emotions. The facts that we allow such emotions take our mind over, and don’t stop and think critically or rationally all the time may be taboo for them.
